Capetonians were recently treated to a rare experience: A troupe of Minstrels leading a horse-and-cart to the Signal Hill Winery to deliver the season's final harvested grapes.

This marked the official start of the inaugural City Harvest Festival, hosted by Mandela Rhodes Place. And with an estimated 2,000 visitors enjoying the exciting variety of food, wine and music during this two-day event (20 and 21 April), the festival was a feast for the senses and hailed as a great success.

Visitors were treated to wine talks and tastings - and could even witness real-time winemaking at Signal Hill Winery - while celebrity chefs including Pete Goffe-Wood of Kitchen Cowboys, George Jardine of Jardine's Restaurant and Giggling Gourmet's Jenny Morris, created tantalizing treats with seasonal food and local wine.

"The vibe in Mandela Rhodes Place and the immediate surrounds was magnificent. This is exactly what those involved in the renewal of Cape Town's inner city have been working towards for so many years," noted Martin Kearns, CEO of Eurocape, the developers of Mandela Rhodes Place.

"We look forward to seeing this festival grow from strength to strength!"

The second annual St Patrick's Ball, hosted by Howard Eurocape in March, once again showcased A-list guests wearing exquisite designer outfits, a delectable Irish South African fusion menu and dazzling local and international entertainment.

This is one is Cape Town's most prestigious annual charity events and raises funds for the St Patrick's Trust - a charity established by Howard Eurocape chairperson, Frank Gormley, to help previously disadvantaged individuals and communities develop their entrepreneurial and developmental skills.

An ambitious R2-million target was set, and to achieve this fundraising goal, exclusive items including a brand new Jaguar, exquisite designer jewellery from Uwe Koetter, a signed Madiba bust and 5 star weekend away at the Royal Malewane were auctioned off.

Irish dance sensation, Ragús, returned once again to wow guests, while Irish diva Eimear Quinn and local South African group Breakfast Included added flavour to the evening's entertainment.
