Come on, SUMMER!
There is something magical about a South African summer, the smell of braai fires, flowering jasmine and the wet earth after a magical Highveld thunderstorm really rejuvenates the soul.
In this issue we look at some other magical things starting with the ever-popular Wendy hut - always needed and oh-so-versatile, whether you use it for play or to stowaway. So many of us have decided not to go away on vacation this year, in our sunny seat article we look at furniture to grace your patio, turning it into your own entertainment haven.
We also explore the French Provencal décor style, an interior design theme that became popular among city sleekers looking for a simpler way of life. In the 80's, the black comedy Little Shop of Horrors gave carnivorous plants instant cult status, today we are still fascinated with these flesh eating foliage and this month we take a closer look at these mysterious plants.
Happy summer and don't forget our tips on how to chill out in a green way - green your fridge.

Green Tip: Green Your Fridge
Your fridge is one of the worst offenders when it comes to green living. Think about it, it runs 24/7 and hosts potential waste, so here are a few quick tips on how to green your fridge:
- Make sure it seals, so the cold does not escape and it does not have to work twice as hard to keep everything cool - genius isn't it! How do you check the seal? Take a R10 note, close it is the door, if you manage to pull it out without much resistance, have the seal checked.
- Don't waste, if you're not going to eat all those nice organic veggies - freeze them.
- Let leftovers cool down before you refrigerate them.

- Here's a great one, stock it like they do in the supermarket, oldest leftovers in the front, this way you won't waste energy on your own Frankenstein experiment in back of your fridge.
- A full fridge is more energy efficient than an empty one, as it has to work less to keep everything cool. So keep it stocked up. Feeling the economic pinch? Then stock it with water filled glass bottles, now you always have cold water and your fridge is running efficiently. If you want a chic alternative, read "white wine" and for an even more affordable alternative read "foil covered bricks", where we
mentioned "glass water bottles".
